The Study of Untreated Syphilis In the Negro Male

In addition to the compulsory sterilizations engineered by the United States government, this 40-year program is also another reason that many Black people do not trust U.S. healthcare institutions and/or medical providers.

This study, typically called the "Tuskegee Experiment", a nickname it gained after it was plagued by scandal in 1972, was formally called The Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male. This was another program funded, administered, and managed by the federal government. And people wonder why Black people are skeptical about getting treatment, vaccines, and/or seeking care? It is because Black people understand that we have been, and remain targeted by the U.S. government, and all of its institutions.
