THANK YOU EMBRACE AND SAN FRANCISCO BLACK BIRTH WORKERS!!

On Thursday, November 2nd, I had the opportunity to be the opening keynote for the San Francisco Black Birth Worker Summit, sponsored by UCSF’s #EMBRACE program. Thank you, Black women and men, for your dedication to #BlackBirthingJustice, which involves addressing maternal health and preterm birth, etc.

They honored #LanitraWilliams, my sister and dear friend, at this event. Anyone who knew Lanitra Ann, understands that she was an advocate for mommies and babies. She was a public health nurse, LCSW, and an advocate for Black families. I miss her so much. She died of cancer in 2021. Her death has left an enormous hole in my heart. She was my #MaternalMaven, as she affectionately referred to herself. Her slogan was “If Mama’s good, baby’s good.” #imissyouverymuchsis

I am grateful that I was able to see and meet so many wonderful people at this event. They filled the room with love and joy! Thank you #Markita #Glamarys #Ieisha #Andrea, and the team at #EMBRACE. Thank you, Julie Harris, Ameerah Thomas, and all the Black women who felt it was necessary to have me in the space.

I look forward to seeing you next year.
