About The Event

This session guides participants to reflect on their own personal relationships and experiences with race, racism, and racial bias (favorable and unfavorable). It takes a look at both institutional and cultural bias in American culture, and begins guiding participants through theories, philosophies, and studies developed by sociologists, scholars, activists, and leaders who have studied the intersections of race and racism, both past and present. The primary focus and approach provides learners with opportunities to consider the mental, emotional, and physical impacts of ongoing triggers and traumas caused by racism, or the lack thereof. Each subsequent session takes this approach, emphasizing the psychosomatic effects of both intergenerational and perpetual harms caused by racial trauma.
